Online National Administrator Credential® (NAC)® Certificate FAQs

The CCEI Online NECPA National Administrator Credential® (NAC)®  is approved by the National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA) to provide Directors and early childhood professionals the required clock hours of training needed to obtain the National Administrator Credential.

The program is broken into ten instructional units. These units focus on the ten areas of competency required to manage a child care center. Each student in the Online National Administrator Credential certificate program receives support from an Education Coach (EC). Each EC is an Early Childhood specialist and has previous experience as an administrator in a child care center, school, or early childhood environment.

Program Objectives: Upon satisfactorily completing the Online National Administrator Credential certificate program, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the historical perspective, the milestones, and the key national organizations involved in early childhood education

  • Describe the various types of early childhood care and education available to families in the community

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the required elements of an effective organization

  • Demonstrate the ability to develops internal and external systems to ensure compliance with local , state, and national codes

  • Identify local , state, and federal rules and regulations that affect early education programs

  • Identify essential strategies for attracting, retaining, and motivating qualified staff

  • Demonstrate knowledge of developmentally and culturally appropriate practices and the ability to select and use curriculum, materials, and equipment for the best early childhood education practices

  • Identify the fundamentals of effective marketing, public relations, and community outreach including the understanding of the similarities and differences between marketing, advertising, and public relations

  • Identify key elements of an operating budget and other types of budgets and the major resources needed to operate a child care program

  • Identify the essential elements of a business plan, demonstrate knowledge of strategic planning techniques, and conduct an operational and financial evaluation of an early childhood program.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of organizational theory and leadership styles as they relate to early childhood  work  environments

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of advocating on behalf of young children, their families, and the child care profession

Student Assessment: Students enrolled in the Online National Administrator Credential certificate program are assessed using the following methods:

  • Competency based multiple choice questions

  • Essays and short-answer writing assignments

  • Student activities and/or observations with written feedback

  • Quizzes in multiple choice format – Students must pass each quiz with a grade of 70% or better to complete the course.

  • Cumulative Final Exam in multiple choice format – Students must pass with a grade of 70% or better to complete the certificate program.

Enrollment Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED and submit documentation as proof

  • Must have access to a computer and printer

  • Must have a valid email address

  • Must have access to the Internet through a JavaScript enabled web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher, Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or higher, etc.)

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write well enough in the language the course is presented in to understand and complete the course material

  • Several courses within this program require observation, assessment, and practical application of learning principles in an early childhood learning environment. Students must be working in or have access to an early childhood environment to successfully complete these courses.


  • In what language is the course offered?
    • This certificate program is only available in English.
  • How long is the online course?
    • The course is self paced, and you can take your time to complete it. The course itself is 62 hours.
  • Will I receive CEUs?
    • Yes, you will be awarded 6.2 CEU's.
  • When can I start?
    • Now! The Online NAC offers rolling enrollment. You many enroll anytime.
  • How long can I take to complete the program? 
    • You have up to 180 days from enrollment date to earn your NAC.
  • Do I need to purchase a textbook to complete my NAC?
    • No, no textbook is required to complete this certificate program.
