CCP
Field Counselor Role
The CCP is a professional credential requiring guidance, insight, and observation from early childhood educational professionals, or CCP Field Counselors. CCP Field Counselors provide technical assistance, procedural guidance, mentoring, field expertise, and observational assessment for CCP candidates. Field Counselors are selected by the CCP Candidate and identified to The NECPA Commission, Inc. on the CCP Registration Form.
CCP Field Counselor Application
CCP Field Counselor Qualifications:
To qualify as a Field Counselor, an individual must meet the following criteria in Education, Experience, and Professionalism through one of the following paths:
Path 1:
- B.A., B.S., or advanced degree in one of the following fields:
- Child Development
- Early Childhood Education
- Early Childhood Special Education that addresses child development, learning from birth through kindergarten, health and safety
- Family Studies Or other early childhood-related field
- And 1 year of experience in a licensed center-based early childhood program serving children birth through 5 years of age as a teacher, care provider, child life worker, social service provider, or comparable position AND 1 year of experience related to assisting in or having primary responsibility for the professional development of another adult.
Path 2:
- Associate degree in one of the following fields:
- Child Development
- Early Childhood Education
- Or other early childhood-related field
- And 2 years of experience in a licensed center-based early childhood program serving children birth through 5 years of age as a teacher, care provider, child life worker, social service provider, or comparable position AND 2 years of experience related to assisting in or having primary responsibility for the professional development of another adult.
Path 3:
- Current Certified Childcare Professional (CCP)
- 18 college credit hours in early childhood education or child development focusing on children birth through 5 years of age
- And 4 years of experience in a licensed center-based early childhood program serving children birth through 5 years of age as a teacher, care provider, child life worker, social service provider, or comparable position
- And 2 years of experience related to assisting in or having primary responsibility for the professional development of another adult.
Professional Experience:
- Relate to the broad diversity of individuals representing a variety of cultural, regional, and socio-economic backgrounds working in early childhood settings
- Have the ability to organize and facilitate learning activities, discussions, seminars, and problem-solving sessions with adults
- Understand and can articulate local and national regulations, standards, and guidelines related to early childhood programs serving children between birth and 5 years of age
- Be able to speak, read, and write English at a level that permits a CCP Field Counselor to carry out his/her duties and responsibilities
Conflicts of Interest Stipulations
- A CCP Candidate may not choose a Field Counselor that shares ANY of the following relationships, as these are recognized by The NECPA Commission as a conflict of interest:
- Director
- Co-Worker
- Spouse
- Immediate or Extended Family Member
